Rooted

Scripture: Psalm 1:1–4 Psalm 1 describes a blessed life, not as one filled with wealth, comfort, or instant success, but as a life marked by peace, contentment, and deep spiritual roots. Every day, voices compete for our attention. What begins as something we casually hear can gradually shape how we think, live, and respond to the world. Psalm 1 warns of this progression: we first walk in ungodly counsel, then stand in its path, and eventually sit in the seat of the scoffer. Our destination is often determined by the voices we allow to echo within us. The alternative is to delight in God’s Word and meditate on it continually. When Scripture becomes the voice that shapes us, we become like trees planted beside streams of water, rooted, steady, and fruitful even when the surrounding landscape feels dry. This kind of growth rarely happens overnight. God is a farmer who works in seasons, not a microwave that works in seconds. While we may want an immediate answer or a quick change, God is often developing deeper roots within us. Seasons that feel ordinary or insignificant may be the very places where He is building our character, strengthening our faith, and preparing us to bear fruit. We can either go through the motions of everyday life or choose to grow through them. By developing a well-worn relationship with the Bible, filling our hearts with worship, and surrounding ourselves with godly community, we become people of lasting strength and substance. Ultimately, the blessed life is not only about what we receive. A healthy tree provides shade and fruit for others. In the same way, God roots and strengthens us so our words, actions, generosity, and presence can become a blessing to the people around us. May we become a church filled with trees planted by the river, deeply rooted in God, unwavering through every season, and continually offering shade and fruit to our community.
